English Language Teaching On-Line

An Internet Magazine for ESL/EFL Professionals

Submission Guidelines
What we're looking for...
ELT On-Line accepts submissions of articles (research and feature), lesson plans, classroom management tips and techniques, examples of games and songs used in teaching ESL/EFL, and just about anything else you can think of! All submissions should be well-written, clear and concise in the ideas they present, and of interest and relevance to teachers and other professionals in the ESL/EFL community.
All submissions to ELT On-Line should be made via e-mail, as attachments. Please forward your work to eltonline@yahoo.com, and include the word "Submission" in your subject line. Authors will receive acknowledgement within one week of making a submission, and those authors whose work is accepted for publication will be notified prior to the appearance of their work in ELT On-Line.
The Editor of ELT On-Line reserves the right to edit all submissions for length, style, format, etc., prior to publication. Articles and other materials submitted to ELT On-Line and included in the magazine remain the property of their respective authors, who grant permission to ELT On-Line to publish and distribute their work without restriction.
Format
Submissions to ELT On-Line are accepted in the following formats: HTML (*.html) files; Microsoft Notepad or other text editor (*.txt) files; and Microsoft Word 6.0 and Microsoft Word 97 (*.doc) files. HTML files are preferred, as they give the author greater control over the final appearance of his or her own work, require the least revision, and place the fewest demands on the Editor's time. (Please see below for HTML guidelines.)
However, if you do not know how to write HTML, please submit your work in one of the other formats listed above. Any work which is submitted in a non-HTML format and accepted for publication in ELT On-Line will be prepared for viewing on the Internet by the Editor.
HTML Guidelines
  • Begin by going to any of the articles in this month's ELT On-Line. View the source code (to do this, just click on the word "View" at the top of your screen, scroll down to where it says "Source" or "Page Source," and then click again) and use it as your template.

  • Use only valid HTML 4.0 tags, and observe all HTML conventions

  • Limit your use of tables; do not set up your entire page as a table

  • Do not force font faces

  • Do not include graphics unless absolutely necessary -- e.g., charts or graphs included as appendices to research articles, etc.

  • HTML Editors such as Microsoft FrontPage tend to insert a lot of extraneous code into HTML files; please review your file prior to submission and remove any unnecessary "fluff"

Thank you very much for your interest in submitting your work to ELT On-Line. This magazine's success depends solely on the generosity of those ESL/EFL teachers who give of their time and talents in order to contribute ideas that might help all of us become better educators.
