Dr.Suzuki belives that "talent is not predetermined,
but it can be made to growin every child by means of
education."TheSuzuki Method began in 1946 when Dr.Suzuki organized the "Matsumoto Music
Academy"in Matsumoto City Japan, after the war. The school was formally incorporated in 1950
with an approval granted by the Ministrey of Education. The Talent Education Institute has been
directed by Dr.Suzuki since that time.
Based on the Suzuki phirosophy, the Suzuki Method of music education provides
children with the same natural enviroment as when they learn their native language.
This "moter tongue" method is quite different from other special educational
systems developed for "brilliant" chirldren. It immerses children in a natural musical
environment that makes music an essential part of every child's life.
For the last 40 years, the Suzuki method has succeded in bringing music to chirdren
in Japan and world wide. Internationally, the Suzuki method has been very
successful. Beginning with the violin and piano, the U.S. there are now additional
Suzuki programs on cello, flute, guitar, harp, bass, viola, voice, and recorder.
The Suzuki Method was initially introduced to the outside world in 1955
when the 1st Talent Education National Concert was heard in Tokyo. A film of the
800 children playing Bach's violin concerto was sent to the U.S. The interest expressed
by the U.S.led to the 1st International Tour in March of 1964. The tour, consisting of
ten Suzuki Method children was received with enthusiasm and eventually led to a
yearly Suzuki concert tour of the U.S. Thus launched the beginnings of the Suzuki
Method on an international scale.
