According to www.gonzaga.edu...
Movie and television star Chuck Norris did not perform any karate moves or flex his muscles, but here cently used the Foley Center Library and the Special Collections reading room and vault for a unique purpose.
He was in Spokane to film his latest movie, "The Cutter," to be released in 2005 by Millenium/Nulmage Films.
The plot has a detective(Norris)trying to save the life of an old diamond cutter. On November 23, the film crew was on campus to shoot a scene where Mr. Norris' character and a female side-kick visited a professor who works with old books.
The two need the professor to translate a Hebrew saying. The film crew first shot a scene from the front of St. Aloysius Church, which will serve as the front door to the fictitious library.
Then they shot a scene of the two actors walking up the library staircase.
In Special Collections, the furniture and books were moved.
While leaning on a research table, the professor told them the translation.
Donning white gloves, he then retrieved an old book to show them a map using a magnifying glass.
The crew filmed the professor taking a prop book off the shelf amongst the Mount St. Michael's Rare Book Collection in the vault.
The scenes shot in Special Collections took over five hours to complete due to retakes and placing the camera at different angles.
Chuck Norris Makes a Scene in the Library Stephanie Plowman When the film crew first visited Special Collections to see if they would shoot there, they were immediately attracted to the Mount St. Michael's Rare Book Collection.
(Currently, we are waiting to hear if our National Endowment for the Humanities application to have this collection cataloged and conserved is accepted.)
The film crew was congenial.
Although Mr. Norris posed for photographs with staff and students, he was mostly reserved to concentrate on his character.
Be sure to watch "The Cutter" in 2005 and look for this special scene.

Chuck Norris, aka "Lone Wolf McQuade" and "Walker,Texas Ranger", has earned a reputation through his 34 movies as one tough, karate-choppin' hombre.
Yet Spokane is seeing a gentler side of Norris, who has been in town for about three weeks filming his latest action movie, "The Cutter."
"My wife and my 3-year-old twins are out here with me, too," said Norris, 64, an affable and soft-spoken man.
"We've been riding the (Looff Carrousel) a lot. The babies love that Carrousel downtown. We rode it so much yesterday, I was starting to get sick!"
Norris and his family are renting an apartment at Big Trout Lodge in Liberty Lake for the duration of the shooting, which will continue through Dec. 19.
"We thought a hotel would be too confining for the twins," he said.
In "The Cutter," Norris plays John "Shep" Shepherd, an ex-cop and private investigator who specializes in locating kidnap victims.
Shep has been hired to find an elderly diamond cutter and Auschwitz survivor.
Kidnappers have snatched the cutter and forced him to cut two special diamonds, stolen from the Biblical "breastplate of Aaron."

Chuck Norris Movie Brings Money To Spokane
The shooting continues in downtown Spokane on a new Chuck Norris film.
The movie is about a kidnapped diamond cutter whom ex-Spokane cop Norris will stop at nothing trying to rescue.
Production hired real Spokane police officers for security. Between crowd control, catering and construction, the film is infusing about $50,000 per day into Spokane's economy.
A local production house called North by Northwest lured Norris to Spokane. This is the company's 18th motion picture and its ability to attract big projects benefits residents of this area.

The Legend is Back! Now filming... THE CUTTER
John Shepherd is not a cop's cop. He used to be, but he killed too many bad guys when he was a homicide detective with the LAPD, and the city wanted him gone. So did the bad guys. Now he's a private investigator specializing in finding people who don't want to-or can't-be found.
Zach is a free-lance killer, with more identities than Interpol, the FBI, the CIA, and the Mossad know about. He is hired by a former Nazi SS colonel, Gustav Speerman, now passing as Simon Heschel in Los Angeles, to find an ancient Hebrew artifact known as Aaron's Breastplate, which contain two of the most fabled diamonds known to man...
"The Cutter" is a love story wrapped inside a lightning-paced action mystery that uncovers secrets from World War II and the present day, finally culmination in an exciting, heart-wrenching finale that doesn't let you catch your breath until the credits have ended to the present day.
