ジェット・リーのダブルについて

今、ジェット・リーはマーシャルアーツ俳優なので、いつでも映画会社はアクションシーンを入れて撮影している・・・通常、マーシャルアーツアクションチームと映画プロダクションは 撮影について話し合いを持つ。・・ジェット・リーがすばらしいマーシャルアーツアクションをどのショットもカメラの前で 行なうという事に優先して・・・
１ シーンで求められているアクションがジェット・リーは可能か
２ もしそうなら、ジェット・リーにとって安全か ジェット・リーが怪我してしまうと 撮影期間が延長となるのでもっとお金が必要になる。そのため最大限の注意をする。
３ ジェット・リーが大丈夫で、道理的に安全なら 次に いつそのアクションをやって どのぐらい時間をかけるか検討する。
どういうことかって？
映画撮影は 大きなパズルを組み立てるようなもの。ときどきは ドラマ部分をセットで撮影している時に２番目監督の撮影隊がカーチェイスを他のロケ地で撮影するということがある。もしくは 手の空いているスタッフが共通の風景などを撮影していたりする。みんな同じ日に！
そんななので たとえばアクションシーンの製作日数が、予算面なり制作上の目的なりで１０日と予定されていて、ジェット・リーが１０日のあいだに総てのシーンをするのが不可能な場合もある。監督隊が特別なジェット・リーのアクションシーンを６日間撮ったり、 他のシーンでジェット・リーを使ったりしていたら、２番目の監督隊は そのアクションを思い出させる撮影は終わってしまったりする。 そしたら みんなはこう聞きくでしょ？「ジェット・リーがいない間、２番目の監督隊は何を撮影しているの？」そう、彼らはジェット・リーが戦っている相手のリアクションを撮っているのだ。倒れる人たちや 壊れる物、もしくは何か追加のスタントショット。こういうショットでは ジェット・リーの顔の見えないショットで、そこの焦点がジェット・リーの戦っている相手の方であるなら、ジェット・リーがセットにいない時は（ジェット・リーが他のどこかでドラマ部分を撮っていたりしたら）ダブルが使われるだろう。
ジェット・リーには代え難いマーシャルアーツの才能があって 映画に契約したのだから、プロダクションは そういったファイティングシーンにジェット・リーを必要かつ求められる資本や時間を優先して用意するのではないかとみんなは思うでしょう。・・・そう、それじゃ こういった決定事をする人たちは時々彼ら独特の論理があることを言っておこう。とにかく、他の時でも私たちはまるまるプロダクションの必要に応じ影響を受けている。それにもかかわらず、ジェット・リーの映画でアクションシーンを見ると、特にこれら最新の主演作では、ほとんどのアクションシーンは彼自身が演じている。もし、スクリーンでダブルがわかったとしたら、それはＡの理由だろう。それは本当に危険だから・・車にはねられるような・・もしくはＢ・・プロダクションがジェット・リーを他のことで必要だった。
香港映画については その頃僕は彼と一緒ではないのでよく知らない。おまけに香港映画は もっと短い制作スケジュールで、予算も通常もっと少ない。制作はもっと速くて貧弱。私はこう聞いた。カメラの前で俳優がクローズアップでせりふを話しているシーンでも、普通、一方の俳優が他の撮影でいない時は彼や彼女はかわりにカメラそばの制作アシスタントの握りこぶしに話し掛けていると。みなさん 忘れないで、映画は「マジック」だと思って・・キーワードは「マジック」・・・あなたがスクリーンで見ているのは「本物」ではありません。もし現実なら、アクション映画にはならず、かわりにドキュメンタリーになるでしょう。たぶん、近日中には 以前に日本のＴＶショーでみんなと一緒にやった三節根の古いフィルムを公開するでしょう。（マーク、本当にゲットしたんだよね？）そしてそれは 本物です。
他のこのダブルの問題に関しては・・・誰か「ＴＨＥ ＯＮＥ」を見たかな？・・そう、この映画にはたくさんジェット・リーのダブルがいるけど、・・・だけど、とにかく、ジェット・リーは常にジェット・リーのダブルと戦わなければならなかった・・
そう、見てる総てのシーンは片方がジェット・リー。そしてジェット・リーは総てのシーンに絶え間なく出なければならなかったので最後のファイトは５週間もかかったのです。
これで 少しはすっきりしたかな

Wow! this stunt double issue really got people worked up! Thanks Mark for clearing this up a bit. Maybe I can add some more thoughts to this issue.
As Jet is the real martial art actor here, whenever the film company is shooting a film with action sequences...usually, the martial art sequence team and the film production team will have the following discussions about the shots; prior to any shots of Jet doing wonderful martial art movements are being put in front of the camera.
1. Is Jet capable of doing these movements required for the scene?
2. If yes. Is it safe for Jet to do these movements? Remember, if Jet gets injured, then the entire production needs to be delayed (meaning more money needs to be spent). So Production will try to reduce the risk as much as possible.
3. Is Jet is capable, and it is reasonably safe, then the question Production must ask is...Has the Directing department slate time for Jet to work in this scene and how much time?
Just what do I mean by that?
Remember people, shooting a movie is like putting a giant puzzle together. Sometimes, when a drama scene is being shot on set, a car chase scene may be shot at the same time on location by the 2nd unit director. And maybe an additional crew would be shooting footages of a generic nature that is also used in the film...all on the same day! Thus, if an action sequence is slated for 10 production days, for all budgeting and production purposes, Jet may not be available for that full 10 days. The directing departmant may only alott Jet to work on this particular action sequence for 6 days and then use Jet in some other scene while the 2nd unit will finish up the reminder of this action sequence. You may ask, " Just what will the 2nd unit be shooting during the time when Jet is not there?" Well, they may shoot reaction shots of the guy(s) fighting Jet, shots of people falling down, crashing into things, or any additional stunt shots. In these shots, if we are not seeing Jet's face, if the focus is on the actors Jet is fighting, and Jet is not here on set (he is shooting a drama scene somewhere else) then a double will be used.
You would think that since a film studio hired Jet to be in a film because of Jet's exceptional martial art ability and production would try to allot the most resource and time requested/required for Jet to be in such fighting scenes...well, let's just says the people who make these kinds of decisions sometimes have their own kinds of logic. AnYyway, at another times, we are entirely subjected to the needs of the production. Nevertheless, when you see a fight scene in Jet's films, especially these last few films that he worked in, most of the fighting were perfomed by the Man himself. If you have seen doubles on screen...it is usually because A. it's something really dangerous..like getting hit by a car, or B. the Production needed Jet somewhere else.
I'm not sure about Hong Kong films as I did not work for him then. Plus HK films had such shorter production schedule and their budgets are usually much smaller. The production moves much faster and leaner. I was told that in scenes where you see actors big close up saying lines in front of the camera...usually he/she is talking to a production assistant's fist off camera as the other actor needed to stand there has been pull away to shoot something else. Remember people....think movie "magic"...with "magic" as the key word...what you see on screen is not "real". If it is real, it would not be an action film, but a documentary instead. Maybe one of these days Mark will share old footages of Jet doing 3 section staff on live Japanese tv show with everyone (Mark, did I get the weapon right?) And that is as real as it gets.
Another note regarding this stunt double issue...if anyone here have see THE ONE...well...there were many Jet doubles in that film...but regardless...Jet had to fight his doubles all the time..so every shot you saw, one side has to be Jet. And that's why it took like 5 weeks to shot that end fight because Jet had to be in every shot and it just took forever.
Hope this clears the water a bit more for everyone.
Ah...thanks for reading my bit on the newsletter...it's just my own observation.
