This was the first show of a 3 night stay at the Velvets "second home", the Boston Tea Party.
This show has long been my personal favourite of all the extant Tea Party recordings.
Lou and Sterling's guitar playing is outstanding, and Moe never misses a beat.
"Move Right In" is just great - Sterling sounds just like a tape loop and Lou's "improvised on the spot"
lyrics are tantalisingly almost intelligible. "Foggy Notion" is a joyful breeze, with buzzsaw guitars and fine vocals.
Going by Lou's introduction, this would appear to be the first public performance of "Candy Says".
It's certainly the only Velvets recording of it which I am aware of where Lou actually sings it himself -
he cant quite reach the high notes but there's a certain weary tenderness to his vocal which I dont think Doug
ever managed to achieve, live or in the studio. This is undoubtedly my favourite version of one of my favourite songs.

No words I can write can adequately describe this performance of "Sister Ray" - over 26 mins of musical mayhem
and lyrical debauchery. It is simply outstanding.

06: Lou Reed interview segment 2, KVAN FM, November 1969 13.39

Sterling Morrison: guitar
Doug Yule: bass, organ
Moe Tucker: drums

This recording has always circulated as "28 January 1969" but the Velvets didn't play at La Cave on that date.
They did play between 29th January and 2nd February, so presumably this recording is from one of those shows.
I am assuming that this is another "Jamie Klimek" tape, but that is anecdotal.
Quality is not too bad for a 1969 audience recording - a bit of distortion and some tape hiss but still very listenable.
The instruments and vocals are generally clear - you can even hear some background audience chatter
during the quieter parts of "Sister Ray". There are breaks between the songs on all the copies of this show I have heard,
so the true running order is probably open to conjecture. I compiled this show from 2 different source cassettes.
Source #1 is better quality but did not include "Pale Blue Eyes". Source #2 has a variety of sound quality defects,
but did include "Pale Blue Eyes" in shortened/cut form.
Yet another example of how all the extant Cleveland recordings have been butchered and misdated over the years....

This is the first known public performance of "Murder Mystery", even if it's just a fragment inserted into the middle
of a lengthy "Sister Ray". You can hear Lou shouting to "Duggie" just before he launches into the "Murder Mystery"
lyrics - presumably this was a prearranged signal. (I have heard an interview with Moe where she said that they
only ever performed "Murder Mystery" live as part of "Sister Ray")

The Velvets played at the Second Fret May 8th, 9th and 10th May 1970, but I do not believe that the date of this recording has ever been conclusively established.

The boys finally had a recording deal with Atlantic some months after being "released" by MGM/Verve, and Lou had written a pile of new songs for the next LP. This recording captures the Velvets just prior to the recording of their last studio album, "Loaded". Moe was pregnant with her first child and couldn't play, so for an unknown number of dates in the spring they played as a trio. Doug Yule filled in on drums on some songs, but for most of this set they just carried on with a 2 guitars/bass set up. Lou and Sterling could easily alternate on the lead/rhythm guitar parts and the much-maligned Doug was a multi-instrumentalist of no little talent. This resulted in a much softer sound - quite different from the other 1968/1969 live recordings which have survived and reminiscent of the sound on their 3rd album.

The set leans very heavily towards the 3rd and (not yet recorded) 4th LP. "Waiting For The Man" is the only song from the "banana" album, none are from "White Light/White Heat", and only 3 are from the "Velvet Underground". The remaining 7 songs will be recorded in the studio over the summer and featured on "Loaded" in September 1970 ( but by that time Lou will have quit the band). "Waiting" is slow and almost dreamy: "Cool It Down" is almost in it's final arrangement. "Sweet Jane" is in the transition between the early version documented on "Live 1969" and it's much more punchy "Loaded" arrangement - Lou is still finalising the lyrics. The "heavenly wine ands roses" bridge is complete, along with the "la la la" closing coda. "Rock And Roll" has been in it's "final" arrangement for many months now, and works fine with 2 guitars/drums. "New Age" has multiple lyrical differences from the final version, although the basic structure is the same. (Frustratingly, it's not always possible to identify what words Lou is actually singing!) "Candy Says" is sung by Doug, and is a pale shadow of the 12/12/68 version with Lou on vocals (my personal opinion of course!). Instead of the usual "Sister Ray" encore we are treated to a unique medley of "Train Round The Bend" and "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'". These songs are approached quite differently from the studio versions we are familiar with - particularly "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'", which ended up as a Doug Yule vocal showpiece on "Loaded". Here the emphasis is on rhythm guitars and the vocals (here shared by Lou and Doug) are almost an afterthought.

The sound quality of this audience tape is very poor indeed but the scarcity of 1960s live material by the Velvet Underground gives each available recording great significance, irrespective of sound quality. The sound here is very muddy, with indistinct vocals and a fair degree of tape break-up. On the positive side, there's not much high-end tape hiss.
DO NOT EXPECT A HI-FI EXPERIENCE WHEN LISTENING TO THIS - I've found that the best approach is a good set of headphones, a darkened room and no disturbances! With the right software, I'm sure this recording could be cleaned up considerably, but I've not attempted to improve it in any way.

The "Afterhours" series of cassettes was distributed by the US-based Velvet Underground Appreciation Society (VUAS) throughout the late 1980s and into the 1990s. This show was spread over 2 cassettes - AH1 and AH7: I got my copies direct from the VUAS in 1986.

12. Waiting For The Man
13. White Light / White Heat
14. What Goes On
15. Cool It Down

a decrepit recording studio in New York City.
This recording session was financed by Warhol and Columbia Records' sales executive
Norman Dolph, who also acted as an engineer with John Licata. Though exact total
cost of the project is unknown, estimates vary from $1500 to $3000

A Walk with the Velvet Underground

M08レット・イット・シャインはLOADEDのSweet Nuthin'とかRide Into The Sun系の好曲。

12 Looking Through The Eyes Of Love (aka Oh Jim)

So here're all 12 songs, with a complete version of "Looking Through The Eyes Of Love."
The sound quality here is also an improvement over both of the previous uploads,
although don't expect too much. This is still a really rough sounding tape.

You'll note that both of the preceding torrents dated this as 1971 (with a question mark.)
My understanding was that these songs were recorded in 1970, immediately after Lou left the Velvets, and before he started work on his first solo LP.
When I received the tape, the first three songs were dated as "Fall 1970," while the remaining nine were dated "Winter 1970."

This recording consists of Lou Reed and Richard Robinson playing an electric guitar at the Robinsons' apartment.
Sometimes it's Lou playing; sometimes it's Richard.
In regards to the song titles listed below, sometimes complete versions of songs are played; at other times there are just fragments.
There are also numerous, often simultaneous conversations going on between Lou, Richard, Lisa Robinson, and the writer Dave Marsh.
Some of the discussions include Lou talking about putting the fourth chord into "Sweet Jane," a brief statement that Lou's first album was going to

be produced by John Cale and released on Atlantic, some talk about the fact that David Bowie wanted to work with Lou, and Andre Segovia's statement that
"The electric guitar is an abomination."

Contrast Clause: An abbreviated version of this tape circulates on a bootleg called "The Bedroom Tape" This is a much more complete version of this recording.
The total time of the bootleg is 01:01:43. The total time of this tape is 02:01:28. The bootleg, however, has 5:10 of additional material that's not on my tape
(so I've added that material onto the end of my tape as track 54, where it belongs, in order to create a more complete version.)

The sound quality of this tape seems about the same as the bootleg (decidedly lo-fi) but possibly a generation or two closer to the source.
This tape also has more hiss and more high end. Perhaps the bootleggers used some noise reduction somewhere along the way.

What this is: This is a tape of Lou Reed and Nico rehearsing that's commonly referred to as "The Bedroom Tape." It's been claimed that this was recorded in a hotel room.
There have also been claims made that this is a rehearsal for the 1972 Nico-Lou Reed-John Cale concert at Le Bataclan in Paris. Neither statement is correct, as I'll explain below.

Date and Location: The notes in the previous upload say, "Though the CD art says "New York 1968",
this is usually dated "April 1970" or just "1970", and is said to have been recorded in Nico's hotel room.
When this boot was originally posted on EZT in January 2005 someone commented that it is actually
from January 1972, prior to Reed, Nico, and Cale's January 29 show at Le Bataclan."

When I received a copy of this tape in 1973, it was labeled "Lou Reed and Nico, Rehearsals
at Richard and Lisa Robinson's Apartment, April 29, 1971," and there's some evidence on the tape itself to back up both the date and the location.

Regarding the location: The voices of the other people on this tape are clearly those of Lisa and Richard Robinson,
indicating that this is probably another of the many tapes made in their apartment.

At the very beginning of the tape, Lou says to Nico, "You took the wrong train and ended up at 125th Street?"
Nico replies, "And I walked to 1st Avenue from 6th Avenue." Lisa asks, "Which train did you take?" Nico says, "The 8th Avenue train."
There's an 8th Avenue, a 6th Avenue, a 1st Avenue, and a 125th Street (as well as an 8th Avenue train) in New York but not in Paris.

Later in the tape, you can hear Lisa offering them tea and coffee and then clattering around in the kitchen. She's clearly in her own apartment and not in a hotel room.

At another point, Danny Fields (who signed the MC5 and the Stooges to Elektra and who wrote the liner notes to the Velvets' "Live at Max's" album) drops by.
Danny, who lived in New York at the time, wouldn't be just dropping by if this took place in Paris.

At yet another point, Lou mentions that he wants to borrow Lenny Kaye's guitar for the gig. Lisa offers to call Lenny.
Back then, making a transatlantic phone call was sort of a big deal, and I seriously doubt that that's what Lisa was volunteering to do.

Regarding the date: Richard and Lisa made many tapes of Lou in their apartment, and all the ones that I've heard all date from the spring and summer of 1971,
when Lou was inbetween the Velvets and the beginning of his solo career.

In track 50, Lou (while talking to Danny Fields) mentions that he's trying to figure out whether he should stay with Atlantic (the label that released
the final Velvet Underground album) or sign with another label. That clearly puts this recording as post-Velvets and before the start of Lou's solo career.
Lou left the Velvets in August, 1970, and reportedly didn't even think about music for a few months, so that would seem to support the April, 1971 date.
Similarly, by January, 1972, Lou had signed with RCA and was recording his first album, so this tape simply can't have anything to do with the rehearsals for the
Bataclan show at the end of January of 1972.

Additionally, at one point, Lisa mentions that Richard has just gotten a video recorder. There's at least one circulating audiotape that was made from the soundtrack
to a Richard Robinson video shot about two weeks later, on May 16, 1971.

A little more background info: The way I heard it was that these rehearsals were for a solo Nico appearance in New York where Lou was to back her up on acoustic guitar.
Lisa and Richard had taped Lou many times, but when they asked to tape this rehearsal, Lou refused.
They taped the rehearsal anyway, with a cassette deck hidden under the sofa. That's why the sound is sort of muffled and distant and doesn't have the clarity
of the other Robinson apartment tapes. That's also why at times Lisa's footsteps are so loud--she's walking right in front of the recorder.
The gig itself never took place (once again, this is hearsay) because Nico got in a fight with a woman in a bar and decided to leave the country rather than have the woman press charges.

Officially released material: At times during the rehearsal, Lou and Nico played tracks from the first Velvets album and from Nico's solo albums.
All of this has been edited out except for three brief sections, included with the consent of the mods, where Lou and Nico are talking during the tracks or
Lou is tuning his guitar to the track.

The recording presented here is from a cassette received in trade in 1973.
It's a bit longer than the boot, mostly due to the presence of a fragment of "Berlin" not included on the CD,
and it has slightly better sound quality, although the analog distortion that's present on the boot is also
present here--it sounds like the original recording was overmodulated.

These aren't really home recordings but the soundtrack to a videotape recorded by writer and producer
Richard Robinson at his apartment. "Hangin' 'Round" and "Walk On The Wild Side" have significantly different lyrics than their later released versions.
The backing vocals on "Hangin' 'Round" are by Lisa Robinson and (I think) Brigid Polk.
That's the writer Richard Meltzer accompanying Lou on "Walk On The Wild Side" and "The Kids"
(labeled on my tape as "I am the Water Man," although it's doubtful if that was ever actually the title of the song.)

Hunter/Wagner

Ahh...from the legendary Berlin aka Rock 'N' Roll Animal tour! Hunter & Wagner are right in front of the mix and sound brilliant.
Actually, they sound a helluva lot better than Lou who forgets some lines and seems pretty tired. Must have been a bad dose of amphetamines?!

Anyways, I don't see this one pop up very often. Hunter/Wagner shows are sorta difficult to come by,
which is too bad because so many Lou fans feel this is the best band he would ever have. (Personally, I like his late 70's band,
The Everyman Band, just as much). This is a great example of what Steve & Dick could do.

Here is a Steve Hunter quote from an interview in Vintage Guitar:

>>That band definitely took Lou Reed into a different direction.
Reed talks bad about the Rock 'N' Roll Animal and Lou Reed Live albums we played on now. He puts that whole era down.
Well, in every place we ever played back then, the press was always putting down Lou Reed and talking about the great guitars of Hunter and Wagner.
He hated that! He came to us during the tour and made us stop playing to the audience and entertaining them because we were stealing his show.
We didn't mean to, we were just hot! We did a lot of great work together and I'm very proud of it.
Playing guitar with Steve Hunter was one of the highlights of my career.<<

Soundwise, this is definitely above-par, but not superb...a "B" perhaps.
There are occasional drop-outs and static (I think the taper was having trouble w/ the recording levels).
As usual I have not filtered/edited this at all. I refuse to edit my shows at all if it means losing any of the original information (i.e. frequencies).
This is a great example of what Steve & Dick could do.

Amazing show, great performance!!!
The sound is excellent...its comes from master tape.
Virtually no hiss exist here. Fantastic recording job by the famous Mr. Freezer.
The set is short. I don't know if there are cuts or edits,
but what we have is Lou and his band in one of their finest hour.
I love the funky intro to Sweet Jane...

One of the first shows of his early 1977 european tour to (nominally) promote "Rock And Roll Heart"
- Lou was being touted as the "godfathher of punk" by the record company and had a reputation to live up to.
I dont think he disappointed anyone with this show - always one of my favourites from this tour.
An excellent quality stereo audience recording - there are a few glitches but I dont think they spoil the listening experience.
Unless someone out there is sitting on a soundboard of this show then I think that this is as good as it's going to get.

After abandoning his guitar for most of the late 1976 "TV sets" US tour, Lou is back playing dirty licks as if he really means it.
The band rocks and the atmosphere is electric - Lou only pays lip service to the new LP and delivers a killer set.
White Light/White Heat is taken at breakneck speed, "Kicks" crackles with smouldering menace and "Sister Ray" is
a frantic feedback and sax frenzy with Lou's manic speedfreak vocals.
....and then he comes out and delivers an almost tender "Lisa Says" as the final encore

Lou's world tour to support "Rock And Roll Heart" started in the USA in late 1976.
By the time he hit Europe in March 1977, he'd dumped the 60 TV set backdrop
and the jazzy arrangements and was back to playing dirty good-time rock and roll.
Don Cherry was out and Lou was playing lead guitar again.

The original plan to was to play at the Palladium in London, but the mangement of
that venerable old theatre decided that Lou Reed wasn't the type of artist they wanted -
hardly surprising since Arista were promoting him as the "godfather of punk".
This was 1977, and "respectable" Britian was being outraged by the "punk" antics of
the Sex Pistols and the like - the last thing the Palladium wanted was the "Godfather of Punk"
whipping the audience up into a venue-destroying frenzy.
There was no need to worry about that - Lou hardly spoke to the audience at all during
this show (the 2nd of his 3 night stay). He was a little more voluble the following
evening (even if only to insult the audience).

Rachel was very apparent throughout this tour - she joined Lou on stage on "Queen's Day"
in Groningen, Holland, and there was a party in London to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of their relationship.

This sounds like a soundboard recording
but it's not very good, and it's full of level shifts and balance changes.

(It's not clear from the programme whether he played 10th, 11th and 12th March or just the 10th and the 12th).
He planned to return here in May for a 5 day residency - binaural tapes of those May shows would later be released as "Take No Prisoners".

"Growing Up In Public" was the most obviously biographical collection of songs ever recorded by Lou.
Some of them seem so deeply personal they're amost embarrassing to listen to (but then he throws in
something like "The Power Of Positive Drinking" and you just have to laugh!). Setting aside his
inspiration for the material, it was certainly a very "wordy" lp: Lou seems to have focussed on the
lyrics and left the music and production to Michael Fonfara. The recording took place at George
Martin's AIR Studios in Monserrat, and to quote Lou himself: "Growing Up In Public is one of the
drinking records of all time......me and Fonfara were ridiculous. We both almost drowned in the pools
they've got there. It's not a good way to make a record. We were animals." Lou was now using alcohol
in lieu of more illicit drugs, and his weight had soared. (His "fat elvis" period??) Photos from the time
show him bloated and almost bursting out of his leather trousers.

There was a short USA tour to promote the new lp, then some dates in Europe towards the end of
June. I think there were some further dates in North America in late 1980 (including an appearance on
the Don Kirshner TV show) before Lou settled down to married bliss with Sylvia. He wouldn't
properly perform in public again till February 1983.

Lou's appearances at the Bottom Line Club are always something special. This is a great audience
recording of a really powerful show, and it's always been (another) one of my favourites. Lou's in a
really good mood, his vocals are full of passion, and he puts a lot of effort into the new songs (as well
as the old ones!). In a rare sharing of his private life, the final song is dedicated to his wife, Sylvia. The
band are superb - very tight. The audience are noisily appreciative - for me that only seems to add to
the electric atmosphere. There's a bit of tape hiss, but I think that keeping it is a small price to pay to
retain the high frequency fidelity of the recording.

05: My Old Man 4.07
06: Growing Up In Public 4.20
07: Street Hassle 26.10
08: Think It Over 4.01

This was a strange show. Lou was in a very energetic and talkative mood for all of these
June 1980 shows at the Bottom Line, and he generally had a good rapport with the audience.
Here, Lou starts off in classic "Take No Prisoners" mode: he declares himself as a candidate for President
(again) during "Coney" and his little story during "Heroin" is frustratingly cut short (by a tape flip on the master
I presume) just as it gets interesting. He doesn't break stride when some crazy girl in the audience starts
verbally abusing him just before "Angel", but she doesn't give up and he loses it completely just before "Street Hassle".
I dont think I've ever heard Lou lose his temper and rant at the audience the way he lays into them here....
(You have to wonder why some of these "fans" even attended the show in the first place!).
But it fires him up for a passionate 25 min version of "Street Hassle"....

And also the last show with the Everman band.
It's only 30 minutes, but good quality.

Two and a half years after announcing his "retirement" from the touring circuit,
Lou returns with a 4 night residency at his favourite local club, the Bottom Line, located at the corner of West 4th and Mercer.
This was the early show on the 2nd night, and Lou's parents were in the audience, sitting at a table with his wife.
The set list is almost unchanged, with the major variation being the inclusions of "Charlie's Girl",
a very nice arrangement of "Sunday Morning", and a quick thrash through "Sister Ray" as a coda to "Rock And Roll".
A great version of "Kill Your Sons" is extended to over 6 minutes with some superb lead guitar, presumably by Quine. Strangely enough,
"A Gift" is dropped - maybe Lou was having trouble keeping a straight face while he was singing it....

These shows got very good reviews in the press, although I always thought they were more workmanlike than inspired.
The booking was originally only for 3 nights - the shows on 1st March were added later. Quine's guitar playing was often singled out for praise,
apparently to the eventual detriment of his relationship with Lou. Bockris alleges that Lou always resented sharing the limelight with his lead guitarist,
to the extent that he (Lou) completely remixed "Legendary Hearts" to minimise Quine's input. (I have to say that I've heard the "original" mixes of that LP
and Lou was kidding himself if he thought that ANY amount of remixing could have saved that miserable effort from mediocrity!)

"Legendary Hearts" itself got fairly bad reviews, in the UK press at least, and didn't exactly race up the sales charts.

SUNDAY MORNING

(Interview by Steve Buttrick for SFX Magazine, London, February 1982)

The 2 shows on 1st March were added later, presumably after the other 3 nights had sold out:
they're not even listed in the Bottom Line website archive.
Maybe it's just me, but I feel that Lou's performances at these '83 shows don't have the passion or intensity of his June 1980 shows at the same venue.
The musicianship is excellent, and Quine's guitar is always superb, but it all seems too "controlled" for my liking.....

no drugs or booze allowed in the dressing room, and it shows!

This is a fair quality audience recording - in mono, a bit "boxy" and without much dynamic range.
It's obviously incomplete, but I don't know how much is missing.

I had to cut small pieces of a couple of "officially released" songs out of this February 1982 "Blue Mask" promotional interview, so it sounds a little disjointed.
But it's a real classic - Lou gets increasingly annoyed at the interviewer's questions and puts him firmly in his place before wrapping things up.

This is a mono recording, with various odd shifts in level and quality.
It sounds as if the taper had to keep hiding the microphone - some songs sound quite muffled, while others are brighter.

Waves of Fea
83年の目玉、There She Goes Againがついに登場。

I wasn't a great Lou Reed fan ( till today ), but I went to this festival because of U2 & THE PRETENDERS.
But I thought it was correct if I tape the famous LOU REED too.

WhiteLight〜、Rock'n'Roll

Moe Tucker: vocals (track 16)

This was the first of the 4 "formal" Songs For Drella performances at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music.
(The 2 shows at St Ann's Church in January 1989 were officially termed "works in progress").
The piece had been commissioned as part of the BAM's "No Wave" Festival, and was performed
on 29th and 30th November and then again on the 2nd and 3rd December 1989.
I was fortunate enough to see the latter 2 shows: Lou and John played the pieces absolutely deadpan,
in front of a very stark backdrop onto which was projected various still images.
(I seem to remember that for some obscure commercial reason these images were not directly connected with Andy!).
Each of the shows was identical in format and content until the final show,
when Moe Tucker joined Lou and John onstage for a nice rendition of "Pale Blue Eyes".
An additional performance, possible on 4th or 5th December (without audience) was filmed for the commercial video release.

After these 4 performances, the piece was partly reprised at the VU "reunion" at the Cartier Foundation, Paris, 15 June 1990
and was presented again in it's entirety in Japan in August 1990.

I received an invitation to this, the opening of the 1990 Warhol Exhibition at the Fondation Cartier in Jouy-en-Josas,
but couldn't go because I was financially embarrassed. I've been kicking myself ever since!
I had seen several of the "Songs For Drella" shows in New York in December 1989, and just assumed that this would
be more of the same - I never dreamed that Moe and Sterling would also be present.

This show was reviewed extensively at the time so I dont think there's anything I can usefully add now. It was, of course,
the first time that Lou, John, Sterling and Moe had shared a stage since September 1968.
Their impromptu rendition of "Heroin" is a little ragged, but the old VU chemistry is still there. John viola playing is
particularly good - at one point it sounds as if there's an aircraft taking off!

The Raven managed to capture an excellent recording of the entire proceedings.
There's a little audience noise but it's not at all obtrusive. None of the "songs" performed at the soundcheck are complete
- mostly Lou and John are just doodling aroound to set the levels. (Lou keeps returning to the riff for "Turn To Me", for some reason....).
I've tried to chop up the soundcheck sensibly into "tracks" - the whole thing fits nicely onto 1 CDR.

MCThere Is No Timeのかっこよさは只者ではない。。
New York』

According to the liner notes it was recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon in London.
The Legendary Little Jimmy Scott sings backing vocals on "Walk on the Wild Side" and "Satellite of Love."

Walk on the Wildside

NEW YORK』『SONGS FOR DORELLA』『MAGIC AND LOSS』
SET THE TWILIGHT REELING』

I love this show! The sound quality is awesome! You'll not believe it's an audience recording...
It contains a live version of "Leave Me Alone", not played by Lou since 1980
or versions of Time Rocker songs like "I don't need this", "Alone At Last" and others...

As usual when he plays "at home", Lou seems very comfortable on his opening night - joking
with the audience and easily handling the more unruly members (..."assholes from New Jersey"...).
This set list features a pretty radial re-arrangement of "All Tomorrow's Parties".
Lou obviously wasn't happy with it - it was dropped after this show.

09: Sweet Jane 5.59

The 2nd night's performance was very like the first apart from the inclusion of
"Small Town" and "Egg Cream" at the expense of "All Tomorrow's Parties" and "Hooky Wooky".
Lou's still in a good mood, laughing and joking with the audience, despite the frequent
but occasionally ridiculous song requests (Like A Virgin?).

There's a short break in the middle of "Riptide" where Garry had to turn the tape over.

A completely amazing show. It just don't get no better. The band was ON FIRE.
Victoria Williams came out to dance during Modern Dance and all of a sudden Lou goes "SING VICTORIA!!!"
It was an order! And so she did. Her lead vocal on Ecstasy is perfect.
SQ=utterly stellar.

Lou was the headline set to close Saturday at the Bumbershoot festival.
As usual a crazy list of bands played that day, with Built to Spill 'opening'for Lou Reed.
Lou was on an odd tour of his own, to support his album of Edgar Allan Poe.
He plays several tunes from that, obviously the Raven being the most familiar.
If his version is read to children, they would understand how haunting and horrific Poe
really was, becasue Lou is downright...haunting and horrific!
Great band, good Lou songs to fill in the new stuff.

And the PERFECT NIGHT with You!

Why Don't You SHUT UP!!!”

Notes by TA:
Crobar is a disco / dance hall on the West side of Mid-Town Manhattan. Once you get past the frilly designer
entranceway and the few side bars and cozy areas you wind up in a room the size of half a high school gymnasium.
Problem with the place for a show like this is that they sell the whole building to capacity, which includes all the people
that are allotted for many small side areas, so that when Lou hit the stage, everybody converges into the one main room,
which turned the place into a real sardine can of about 1500 people.
Surprisingly, the crowd was really into Lou, relatively quiet and into the music, very unusual for the NYC set,
most of whom appear just to be seen at the gig (or just to say they were there), rather than to appreciate it.
Me, I know why I was there ... I had work to do, and so I did.
But you can hear how cooperative the crowd was during the piano / voice duet Vanishing Point.
This NYC crowd resisted the typical mid-song cat calls that normally fill the voids of silence.
The place was so quiet, you will hear the bottles and bottle caps falling at the bar behind me.

a great recording, with Lou in a very good mood.
A great rock sound with a lot of feedback and a legendary rock jam version of 'the raven'.

A great show! The whole thing speaks for itself. The material and performance are top-notch. Recording does it justice.
Recording notes: the first song is recorded a little louder than the rest of the show and the break between the first 2 songs is edited off

because it was totally maxed out and clipping (during the applause, till I got it straightened out).
Also, they faked me and my stand alone burner (remind me to annihilate that thing later)
out on the end of Video Violence so I reburned that and plugged it in. It should be pretty smooth.
It is in the master tape - I have no idea how it happened. Not tragic, but worth mentioning.

HALLOWEEN PARADE

While I didn't think that Lou Reed could top his performance in Knoxville
he exceeded it in The Historic Ryman Auditorium last night in Nashville!
Once again Lou was in fine form and it was cool to see how Lou dictates
the flow of the music from his band and make every performance unique!
It also didn't hurt that he did 3 more songs than the Knoxville show!

Walk On The Wild Side

Pale Blue Eyes

Tony "Thunder" Smith - drums
... and Unknown Sax Player

We Three Kings
