Nara Capital
|
Nara Capital was the capital of Japan from 710 to 784. The time was called Nara Period. The width of Nara Capital is one million square meters, in spite of being in the center of Nara City.
The Garden of Eastern Palace was restored at the east-south corner of The Nara Imperial Palace Site. And Suzaku Gate was restored in the center of southern edge. |

There are Nara Imperial Palace Site Museum in the west-north corner, and Archaeological Features Display Room on the north edge of center. Many people visit them all year round.
In spring many dandelions cover the field, and a lot of cherry blossoms surround it. Reeds thrive in damp parts. Birds build nests and lay eggs, there.
In fall acorns fall from many trees and the field looks beautiful with grasses turned yellow. It is said that more kinds of wild plants grow in the Nara Imperial Palace Site than anywhere else in Japan. Many people visit there as a holiday resort and they relax with a good view of the huge field.
The Nara Imperial Palace Site has been brought to crisis twice.
In 1961, the plan, constructing a car shed of Kintetsu Railway
at the west-south area of The Nara Imperial Palace Site, was
broken by the preservative movements throughout Japan. And in 1963, the bypass of national 24th road was made a roundabout way by the movements, too. The Nara Imperial Palace Site has been kept away from these destruction.
The government promotes the excavation investigation of The Nara Imperial Palace Site, but only thirty percent of vast area has been investigated.
It is said that it will take more than a hundred year to finish
investigating. Some professionals persist it is better to leave as it is to keep wooden tablets in condition until science technology develops better.
