EMAIL MESSAGE - CAPE POINT

This message is coming to you from Cape Point, one of the most scenic and majestic sights in South Africa and, indeed, the world. The 7 750 hectares surrounding Cape Point form part of the Cape Peninsula National Park (CPNP), which encompasses the mountain chain that stretches some 65km from Table Mountain and Signal Hill in the north to Cape Point in the south.

The CPNP is home to over 2 200 plant species (the highest species density of anywhere on earth), more butterfly species than the entire British Isles, several hundred bird species, and a variety of mammals including chacma baboons, caracal, otters and antelope ranging from the huge eland to the tiny klipspringer.
The CPNP has been nominated for World Heritage Site status.

Angling, diving, whale watching and hiking are just a few of the activities available to visitors to Cape Point. Amateur historians can marvel at relics of sea-faring history like the Dias and Da Gama crosses, and at many other sites of historical interest.

But it is Cape Point itself, one of the highest sea cliffs in the world, that most enthrals. The panoramic view is breathtaking, and one can understand why countless visitors to this, the south-western tip of Africa, have felt that they were standing at the spot where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. The wonder of that meeting is not lost as you stand and gaze across the vastness of the ocean.
