| It is said that Katakuri (Erythronium japonicum) can be seen at any place
at this area. However, it is possible to see it at verry limited place
now. Yoshii town office, owner of the land and chirdrens of primary school
maintains Katakuri-no-sato of 2.3 hectare with 50,000 of Katakuri flowers.
For your safty walk, a wooden road and walking road is maintained. |
| Charm of the flower |
Katakuri (Erythronium japonicum) blooms at low mountain area when spring has come. The flower has five petals with purple color and turns to the under. But earch flower petal warps toward the sky as a Orizuru (a paper craft crane). If you see this flower to pass the sun light, I beleave it is the best way to enjoy most beatifull flower of Katakuri.
Relation to temparature;
Katakuri blooms its flower when temparature is over 10 cm degree, and its
petals warps when temparature is over more than 10 cm degree. However,
its flower close at night or on cold rain day because temparature goes
down 10 cm degree.
Old name of Katakuri;
Katakuri's old name is "Katakago", and Katagago is sometimes
appier in Manyosyu (A waka poetry book). |

By public |
Take a train for Takasaki of JR Takasaki line at Ueno station in Tokyo,
and leave it at Takasaki station. Then change the train to Jhoshin-Dentetsu
line for Shimonita at Takasaki station, and get off it at Yoshii station.
Take a taxi for Katakuri-no-sato at Yoshii station. |

Drive your car for Nagano on Jhoshinetsu highway from Tokyo, and leave
it at Yoshii IC and turn to right (east) at route 245 for Fujioka city.
After passing Irino primary school, route 245 will turn to right for Fujioka,
then Katakuri-no-sato is jusu right side of route 245. (20-30 car parking
is available.) |
